Physical Therapy Can Help Prevent Dance Injuries.
Updated: Oct 16, 2020
Athletic Advantage Physical Therapy offers advanced sports and dance therapy techniques in Allen, TX.
When you think of sports you may not immediately think of dance, but the physical demands that are placed on the bodies of dancers make them just as susceptible to injury as football or baseball players. Like most professional athletes, dancers began dancing at a very young age and the repetition of those movements that require them to be extremely flexible and strong make them very susceptible to injury.
The vast majority of injuries across the spectrum of dance are the result of either overuse and strain, rather than actual trauma. These dance injuries tend to occur at the foot, ankle, lower leg, lower back and hip. Injuries show up more frequently in dancers as they age, so it is important to emphasize what physical therapy can do to prevent future injuries.
Our goal is to provide the highest possible patient care utilizing advanced manual therapy techniques, motor control and biomechanical/movement analysis specific to each dance style.
We have a thorough understanding of the motor control and biomechanics of each individual dance style and/or dancer, which allows us to identify an appropriate and specific treatment.
If you’re experiencing discomfort from a dance injury or would like to prevent future strain, injury and avoidable pain we’re happy to connect you with a physical therapist who can help you get to achieve your top performance level.
