AAPT top tips for a healthy Spring - helping your body function at its optimum level
Updated: Jun 30
Spring is here and is one of the most enjoyable times of year — the weather is nice and the days are longer which encourages outdoor activities. That’s why it’s important to find a healthy balance for a healthy lifestyle.
There are several ways to improve your health and wellness. But what exactly does that mean? The term “health” is relative. It essentially means that your body is operating at its highest levels of function in regard to breathing, circulation, digestion, and more. Any step you make toward helping your body function at its optimum levels is a step toward becoming a healthier you.
We can provide you with exercises, stretches, and techniques that can help you stay active and become better balanced. As a result, you’ll feel healthier overall!
Physical activity and balance often coincide with one another. There are some activities that we are required to do each day, such as work, running errands, and household chores. Balance is an integral part of all these daily activities. By improving your balance, it can become much easier for you to carry out these activities with ease.
For example, walking is actually a single leg activity. You must be able to balance on one leg in order to walk safely. Additional aspects of proper balance, such as vision and shoe-wear, also go into improving your balance and making sure you are able to complete your daily activities safely and comfortably. Whatever the case may be, we will work with you to help create a happier, healthier you.
Get up and Move
During the spring, there are plenty of ways to stay physically active. Walking, gardening, exercising or biking outside are great ways to get physical activity during the warmer months. Not only does this improve physical health, but it also benefits overall health.
Get Enough Sleep
With the time change in full effect be sure you are getting enough sleep. It can be difficult since the weather is nice and staying up late is more common. However, sleep is an important way for the body to recover and repair tissues and organs. Lack of sleep can cause decreased motivation toward work, exercise and eating properly.
Manage Your Stress
Stress comes in all forms regardless of the time of year. It is important to have a healthy work-life balance along with making time for yourself. Stress can directly affect your physical and emotional health. Having too much stress can cause unhealthy lifestyle choices, depression and anxiety. Some stress management tips include:
Time management with work, family and friends
Relaxing (massage, stretching, reading)
Meditation or deep breathing exercises
Eating a balanced diet
Taking a break
Water intake is especially important during the warmer months when the temperatures are warmer. Up to 60 percent of your body weight is water. Your body uses water to function properly. If you participate in physical activity or the weather is warmer, the water intake should increase.
